The Eco Shrine
The Eco-Shrine, also called the Voice of the Earth Eco-Shrine, is an outdoor environmental art installation created by artist Diana Graham in 1995.
Art, ecology and landscape
Set on the edge of indigenous forest in the Amathole Mountains, it is designed as a walk-through space where sculpture, painting, mosaic and landscape become one continuous artwork. Painted works, cement reliefs, mosaics and sculptural pathways explore the evolution of life and the interconnectedness of living things.
A space for reflection
The Eco-Shrine is not linked to any religion. It invites reflection on nature, ecology and humanity’s relationship with the environment.
Walk through the shrine and gardens
A tree-lined path leads through the artwork and gardens overlooking the Tyhume Valley and surrounding mountains. Diana Graham also opens her adjacent studio, where visitors can see and purchase her work. The site is used for guided visits, workshops and small events.
Plan your visit
The Eco-Shrine charges an entrance fee and opens during specified visiting hours. Confirm current opening times before visiting.
