The Edge Restaurant is a relaxed and scenic place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner, surrounded by beautiful gardens and views towards the Bluff and mountains. Choose a table on the outdoor patio, settle into the undercover courtyard near the pizza oven, or warm up beside the fireplace in the restaurant or cosy pub.
Meals are generous, homemade and full of character. Fresh cakes, scones and bread are baked regularly to enjoy with a good cup of coffee, while meat and fresh produce are sourced as locally as possible. The menu also includes vegetarian and vegan options.
Enjoy designer pizzas from the pizza oven, an interesting selection of wines and craft beers, or a cocktail in the garden, pub or beside the fire. The Edge also caters for functions and can prepare platters for gatherings.
Dinner bookings should be made before 5pm.
You are welcome to walk the Labyrinth at The Edge, an eleven-circuit labyrinth inspired by the design of the labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral in France. Set within the gardens near the cliff’s edge, it offers visitors a quiet, unhurried experience surrounded by Hogsback’s mountain landscape.
The labyrinth has a diameter of 29 metres and a circumference of 91 metres. Its carefully arranged circuits form one of the most intricate labyrinth patterns and lead walkers gradually towards the centre.
The pathway into the centre is approximately 700 metres long. Walking to the centre and following the path out again covers about 1.4 kilometres. The labyrinth was completed in 2002.
The inward path can be approached as a time for reflection, forgiveness and letting go. The outward journey represents moving forward with a renewed sense of empowerment and healing—or visitors may simply enjoy the peaceful rhythm of the walk.
Follow the path through The Edge’s gardens towards the cliff, where several viewpoints look out across the gorge, indigenous forest and surrounding mountains. The view sites are especially beautiful towards sunset and offer quiet places to pause and take in the landscape.
The route passes through established gardens and areas filled with proteas. During the right season, walkers may also encounter indigenous orchids and changing displays of cool-climate plants.
From the cliff edge, the landscape opens across the forested gorge and distant mountains. Birds of prey can sometimes be seen riding the thermals, while Cape parrots, Knysna turacos and other mountain birdlife occur around the property.
The viewpoints are peaceful places to end an afternoon, watch the light change across the mountains and enjoy the wide Hogsback sky.
