As some of you might know, there is an annual Cape Parrot census that takes place across South Africa that is organised by Prof Colleen Downs from UKZN. This year will be the 24th edition of the event and it is scheduled to take place on Saturday 08 May 2021 and Sunday 09 May 2021.

If anyone would like to assist us in counting South Africa’s only endemic parrot, please contact me on cassie@wildbirdtrust.com or +27 82 321 3302 (WhatsApp text message preferred).

The count takes place for three hours before sunset on the Saturday afternoon/evening and for the three hours after sunrise on the Sunday morning. I coordinate the count in the Amathole Mountains and place observers close to or overlooking critical forests where parrots are counted moving between roosting and feeding sites. In Hogsback we have the luxury of counting them from our front porches!

I hope that you all can help.

All the best and thanks in advance,
