Jikani
Jikani is our community development organisation that aims to assist local youth in becoming productive members of society, whilst also developing sustainable businesses that help tackle poverty and uplift communities.
Their main objectives became to work towards:
- Employment liaison and assistance for the locally unemployed;
- Skills development and training in various fields of activity;
- Practical support for local entrepreneurs and micro enterprises;
- Support and development of early stage childhood education;
- Promoting mutual respect and community cohesion.
Achievements
The dedicated Jikani team has achieved much to date:
- Property purchased by a generous donor to accommodate the Jikani project
- Established successful charity shop, offices and training centre
- Set up infrastructure for IT skills classes, beading and sewing projects
- Provided support and guidance for the establishment of Malikanye pre-school
- Provided support and community liaison for Engineers without Borders
- Run an Eco-brick project to promote a plastic free Hogsback
These efforts have been achieved by their full-time staff and responsible Board, together with significant local charitable support. They have also established a Business & Community Incubator to significantly expand our charitable activities underpinning their founding objectives.
Second time round shop
Be sure to go and have a squizz at all the locally produced merchandise as well as previously loved clothes and goodies. This charity shop has become a firm favourite for a cross section of the community. The generous donations of clothes, household goods, electrical equipment and books enables even the poorest of people to clothe themselves and their children. The shop also provides an outlet for the local crafters to sell and showcase their crafts.
