A Hogsback spring tradition

Private gardens.
Generous hosts.

Open Gardens is an invitation into places visitors would not ordinarily see.

Some are grand heritage gardens beneath enormous trees. Others are younger, informal or productive. There are ponds and streams, Japanese maples, azaleas, rhododendrons, roses, bonsai and forest edges. Each garden carries the character of the people who tend it.

The experience is self-guided, allowing you to choose your own pace and spend longer in the places that draw you in.

The Community Garden of Love

The gardens give back.

Open Gardens ticket proceeds support the maintenance of the Hogsback Arboretum.

Generations of Hogsback gardeners have planted trees and ornamentals in this public park. Its forest paths, streams and 39 Steps waterfall make it one of the village’s most loved shared spaces.

Make a day of it

Leave time
to wander.

01

Plan a loose route

Gardens vary in size and terrain. Use the organiser’s viewing times and access notes, then allow room to linger.

02

Dress for the mountain

Wear comfortable shoes and bring layers. Spring can move from sunshine to mist or rain in the course of a garden visit.

03

Enjoy the village

Open Gardens weekends also bring markets, plant sales, food and wine experiences. Check the current programme before travelling.

04

Stay for more than flowers

Book accommodation early and leave time for forest walks, waterfalls, local food and the mountain landscape.
